Bolt VIII: Kind, Generous, and Ready to Help

Commentary

There is no circumstance in human endeavor where you will be disappointed that your fellow people are kind, generous, and ready to help. It is our north star as cooperative organisms. It is the best of us. It is what separates us from the animals. Our courage is the engine and our conscience the rudder of this behavior in hard times.

There is something to be said for this Bolt being merely "Compassion". That would be tidier, but that word really only covers feelings, not so much actions. Maybe that is not how it should be. I would hope that someone with compassion would be kind, generous, and ready to help. But all that I can be sure of is that they are compassionate. So... We will stick with the bundle of words for now, until we have something more succinct.

Of the two teamwork/community principals (B4 and B8), this one represents action and inaction, where the other is communication. Action when someone requests or needs it, and inaction when they want to learn and/or fail on their own. This also covers feedback and mentorship. Understand & Consent is more about delegation, effort, and communication - ensuring that those who are issuing tasks are both understood and that those performing the tasks have consented to do them (it is not assumed). Who is doing what, and what is to be done.

Bolt 8 is about how we help each other. We should be ready to help each other when asked. We should endeavor to act with kindness in everything we do. And if we have the strength and resources to be generous, we should do that.

Regardless of what we are doing or where we are doing it.
